Overview

Grampian Gathering 2024

In 2023 the Granite City Gathering was attended by 180 people supported by the Stay Well Stay Connected Program of the Aberdeen City Health and Social Care Partnership.

The Feedback was overwhelmingly positive and supportive of continuation of the gathering in 2024. Following a Grampian wide wellbeing festival in May we are holding a Grampian wide gathering as well.

Who is it for?

The Gathering is a conference for people over 50 years old who are on the approach or contemplating  retirement.

What is it about?

The intention behind the Gathering is to promote discussion and subsequent planning of a good retirement and help people be more aware of the community based activities, initiatives, groups and organisations across the region.

There will be various stalls and tables showcasing all the various groups and charities to promote and encourage people to join groups to stay well and connected to their communities.

Where possible take up opportunities to volunteer.

What is Grampian Gathering’s focus?

  1. Retiring well
  1. Being mindful of the four phases of retirement The 4 phases of retirement | Dr. Riley Moynes | TEDxSurrey - Bing video
  2. Psychological impacts of retirement and how connecting to communities to give meaning and purpose can stave off this decline.
  3. Planning for your best retirement
  4. Getting it right in the end, planning for death and dying – once your plans and wishes are in place, live your best retirement life.
  1. Age Friendly Communities
  1. Setting up an over 50 gathering – supporting the positive contribution of older people. The work of age friendly cities developed by the World Health Organisation in getting engaged in decision of where we live and retire in later life.
  2. Age friendly communities supported by Scottish Older Peoples Assembly (SOPA)
