Aberdeen City Council School Estates

Closed 31 Dec 2022

Opened 8 Sep 2022

Overview

In Aberdeen we have 11 secondary schools, 48 primary schools and 3 schools who offer specialist support. In 2022 these schools provided education for 24,260 pupils. We have a team of people called our School Estate Team and they are responsible for helping to look after our school buildings.  The School Estate Team want our school buildings to:

  • have everything teachers need to help pupils learn

  • be in good condition

  • be safe

  • be welcoming and attractive

The School Estate Team use lots of data to help them plan what they need to do to our school buildings. To do this they look at how good learning spaces are and if there are enough school places for all children and young people now and in the future.  The School Estate Team have recorded their thinking in the School Estate Plan.  The School Estate Plan has just been published and lists the current challenges that they need to address and ideas on what the Council might do.

Our councillors have had a look at the School Estate Plan and have asked council officers to start work on the challenges and ideas.

Why your views matter

Children and young people spend lots of time in school and we think it is really important that you have your say on the ideas in the School Estate Plan.  The Plan is not set in stone and your views will help us to make the right decisions about the school estate in the future.

You can comment on all the ideas or those for your community only.  Thanks for taking the time to help us shape our school estate plan.

What happens next

We will use the information you give us to inform the School Estate Team about your views on the plan, as a child/young person attending school in Aberdeen City
