Rent Consultation 2023

Closed 28 Oct 2023

Opened 25 Sep 2023

Take part in the 2023 Rent Consultation.

We are consulting on a one-year rent policy and to review again in 2025, with a potentially longer-term policy. As part of this, we are considering two options of rent increase in 2024/25 at either 6.3% or 8.8%.

The rent that you pay to Aberdeen City Council is held in an account known as the Housing Revenue Account (HRA). The money in this account can only be invested in housing services such as repairs, improvements, housing management and building new properties.

The rent freeze in 2021/22 and 2022/23 means that over the next 30 years (compared to the 4% rent policy) we have £360m less to invest in council homes and neighbourhoods. A lower rent increase than those provided, will mean that the council would have to stretch investment over a longer period of time, as well as looking at withdrawing or reducing housing services, or increasing rents by much more in future years.

We know that the decisions we make about your rent and how we spend the money we collect are extremely important, particularly during uncertain times. Therefore, all tenants are being invited to have their say and influence the decisions we make.

The survey will be open until 28th October 2023.
