Model for Improvement Bootcamp

Closes 30 Nov 2024

Opened 8 Feb 2024

Overview

The Model for Improvement is a framework designed to develop, test and implement changes that lead to improvement. The Model is used and endorsed by the Scottish Government and is credited with bringing about improvements in the NHS.

It is being rolled out across Aberdeen City Council and Community Planning Aberdeen partners to create a city-wide culture of quality improvement and improve outcomes for the people of Aberdeen.

This course is open to all Community Planning Partners, but particularly useful if you are responsible for delivering improvements to your service but is open to anyone with a desire to improve services!

We have both In-Person and Virtual Sessions available. You can select which date you would like to attend on the next page.

The in person bootcamp will be held over a full day in Marischal College. Completion of the bootcamp is a requirement for all CPA Project Leads.

We have in person bootcamps being held on the following dates in 2024:

  • 24th April 09.30-15.30
  • 30th May 09.30-15.30
  • 7th August 09.30-15.30
  • 14th November 09.30-15.30

The virtual bootcamp is an alternative to the in person session, and will be delivered in two 3 hour sessions. You only need to book into the first session and you will then receive appointments for both sessions. Attendance at both sessions is required for you to be registered as having completed the bootcamp.

The next virtual bootcamp will be held on:

  • 01/10/2024 and 03/10/2024 09.30-12.30

Over the sessions we will introduce you to the Model for Improvement and provide you with tools, skills and resources that can be used on a wide range of projects. The Model breaks down change into manageable pieces and allows you to test each change on a small scale to see if it is making a difference! The workshop will cover the below

  • Develop your project charter
  • Understand the Plan Do Study Act (PDSA) approach to continuous improvement
  • Learn how to use driver diagrams
  • Use data to inform your project

Over the session we will ask you to complete a short exercise in which you will be applying one of the tools explored.

Once you have completed the bootcamp, you will be able to take what you’ve learned and apply it to your projects – and you’ll have access to an online community of improvement peers who can support you on your improvement journey!
